Artist Love - Jessica Swift

I absolutely adore the energetic, whimsical, exuberantly-colourful work of fabulous artist / surface pattern designer Jessica Swift. {Can you tell I am a fan?!}
Jessica has a blog, a fabulous website, which you can buy a multitude of colourful products from, an Etsy Shop where you can buy fab prints like this one (below), along with things like pocket mirrors and cards...
Basically if you can think of something to print a pattern on - Jessica is likely to have done it! Even rain boots!!

I especially love Jessica's paintings: Here's a taster - but you can peruse many more or perhaps even purchase of Jessica's playful, funky original works on wood panels at Gregg Irby Fine Art.

Enjoy ~ I hope to have brightened your day a little!

Design spotlight - Bokja

Hi there,
this is going to be a post of pictures and very few words. I don't believe words are needed, the pictures speak for themselves.
Let me suffice to say these wonderful items are from the incredible store called Bokja, in Beirut, Lebanon.
I must also mention that these 'ahh-mazing' photographs were taken in the store by Gemma, a Sydney textile designer,  of Line Shape Colour blog (where you can find her great Bokja post).

All I can say is *SWOON*!!"

Take care,
and may your day, week (or indeed life!!!) be as cheerful and bright as this wonderful work of the Bokja design duo!!

Love,

* Designer * Artist * Illustrator * Blogger... * - Lucy King

Hello!
I'd like you to meet Lucy - like me she is a textile designer, and an English gal living in Australia!

This talented lady, Lucy King is a Print Designer and Illustrator, specialising in surface

pattern design across varied creative platforms. She can boast a diverse range of work and

international clients (although I'm sure she wouldn't boast - we British don't tend to like

to!!). Lucy's designs and creations include textiles such as Bed linen & interior furnishings

as well as tableware products and children's products.

She has previously worked for Wedgewood, in the UK, as a tableware pattern designer,

but she now lives in Melbourne, and works from her own studio there, as a freelance

illustrator and designer.

Just look at these examples of her beautiful quintessentially English illustration style.

Translated into tableware, these illustrations look stunning!

Me Old China!!!
My favourite aspect of Lucy's work has to be her 'Me Old China' range - a unique collection of designs created from pre-loved old and vintage plates; discarded crockery that is given a

second lease of life, crafted by Lucy into bespoke collections of over-scaled

                                                           jewellery and wall plates

You can buy this pendant (right) & more of the range from Lucy's
Etsy shop.

(note: these three images are from Lucy's Etsy shop)

Diamond shaped willow pendant - $70

I also adore Lucy's sketchbook illustrations of vintage kitchenalia...

N.B. Unless otherwise stated ALL IMAGES are copyright of Lucy King and can be found here.

See you soon,
love,

Artist and Designer collaboration - Something Special....

As some of you will know, my last position of employment (before having my bubbas), was as Textile Designer for the awesome, world famous artist Ken Done, at his company 'Done Art & Design' in Sydney.
"Paintings of Things in the Sea"
It was a 'fantabulous' job and I LOVED it!!
The office was full of light, colour, warmth (the human kind), and my role was interesting, fun and technically challenging at times, but always rewarding.

Ken, his lovely wife (and the company fashion designer) Judy Done, and the rest of the team, which included their 'kids' Camilla and Oscar were wonderful - in a sense they were like a surrogate family to this
here ex-pat! I had only moved from the UK to Australia about a year prior to working at Done.

Incidentally, I had been a big fan of Ken's work for many years, and upon deciding to emigrate to Australia, I had decided I wanted to work for him. Hey Presto - funny how life sometimes obliges isn't it? Faith, hard work, good luck, being in the right place at the right time??? Let's just call it SERENDIPITY!!

Today, I came across (via Printsource blog), a collaboration of Ken's with designer/ artist Natalie Wood and her label Something Else.

'Something Else' fulfils Natalie’s desire to combine different creative disciplines; blending art and fashion.  She collaborates on collections with respected artists, such as Georgina Cullum, Michaela Saunders, Skullux and Tara Marynowski.
The results are 'street-chic', edgy clothes, intended for "women who share Wood’s appreciation for art, music, popular culture and nature".
